Hello,
My name is Céline Chancelier.
I’m French but I’ve spent most of my professional life in London, UK and a few years in Los Angeles too where I worked for 30 years in music licensing (film, TV, performance, ballet, etc.), for both major companies and as a freelance consultant. As you can imagine, copyright means a great deal to me.
I’ve also written two novels (currently writing the 3rd) and done many other things in my life, including producing a movie.
I started Creatives Against GenAI last week because I got angry (more like rage really) and frustrated.
Angry to see our intellectual property trampled over by companies who have no regard for it or the people behind it and, most of all, don’t want to pay.
Angry to hear “early” adopters of Generative AI already telling the rest of us to get over the theft of our copyrights because the “horse has already bolted” as one author put it and we better get on with the programme.
Frustrated because I see a lot of creatives saying no to AI, putting notices on their art and on their social media, and then trying to prove that they didn’t use AI when the onus should be on those who do. And then nothing happens. It’s like screaming into the void.
This is what led me to take action and create Creatives Against GenAI. It’s nothing more at the moment than me getting on my soapbox and saying that I won’t take this lying down. Delusional I know but I don't care.
I believe things can change and that it's not too late. But if we want to be heard, we need to unite our voices across the creative industries. This is a numbers game. Us versus billion-dollar companies.
And this isn’t just be about creatives either. It is also about the people who work alongside us in our industries and who are hoping AI won’t take over their jobs. Because once that’s done, we’ll lose a lot of skills, experience and knowledge. So if that’s you, please consider coming on board too.
So what is Creatives Against GenAI standing for you’re asking?
That’s a question for all of us. If you ask me, there are 3 topics that come to mind:
This list is non-exhaustive. You may have other ideas and I would love to hear them.
I want to make one thing very clear. This is not about me. This coalition/movement, which I hope can become a non-profit organisation one day, should be shaped by all of us. I’m just the person who decided to get the ball rolling.
